pressureNET Live API open to the public

Our new API is now available to everyone, and you can sign up today for free and get access to our live atmospheric pressure data stream. We’re currently receiving about 300,000 measurements per day, crowdsourced from pressureNET users and are planning to grow this significantly in the near future.

Academic researchers now have access to our very large (and growing) dataset and we’re very excited to see what discoveries will be made. The public also has access to the live stream, but the dataset is much smaller since most of our users do not elect to share their data publicly.

The API we’re announcing today has been in use by atmospheric science researcher Cliff Mass for months. It has performed very well and has largely been stable during that time. The API is very simple and offers few features, so it currently acts as a simple data access mechanism. We’d like to improve it, primarily by optimizing for the use cases you want the the most, so let us know what you think.

We’ll update the API with more features later this summer, at which time we will also open API access for companies and other organizations. Don’t forget to sign up and send your feedback to livestream@cumulonimbus.ca. Thank you!
